  • The Purple Sash Award: Dr. Jennifer Ham

Beta Psi Chapter most honored award: The Purple Sash Award

Every chapter has the cheerleader, the one who goes the extra mile to do anything extra to help the chapter progress, advance, and thrive. Someone who is a worker and willing to go overboard. After two years of COVID-19 the chapter wanted to increase spirits and say “thank you and we care about you” in a special way, so it created the Purple Sash Award. The winners are inspirational leaders, value-driven leading from a deep sense of purpose and responsibility to create positive change in the Chapter. The award consists of a purple SIGMA sash and a 100-year SIGMA centennial pin.

Our inaugural winner is Dr. Jennifer Ham. She was so surprised when it was announced at the Board meeting which made it even more exciting and moving! Jennifer has been Newsletter/Publicity Chair for the past two years and has created a newsletter that could win awards on its own and the newsletter infuses connection, passion, and inspiration. Check it out on our Beta Psi website. Dr. Jennifer Ham is an Associate Professor at the Oregon Health & Sciences University (OHSU) and a Certified Nurse-Midwife. She completed her DNP in 2020 from OHSU and has received numerous other awards from SIGMA Beta Psi Chapter. Jennifer graduated in the top 35% of her BSN program and was inducted into SIGMA, an honor she greatly cherishes and looks forward to many years of involvement. Through Jennifer’s approachability, creativity, innovation, and excellent communication skills she has built a Chapter newsletter that can be carried on for years to come!

  • Sigma Region One Virtual Conference

  • BE BOLD! Presidential Call To Action!

With all this in mind, the Sigma board and President Dion are calling on you, the membership of this organization, to BE BOLD.

BE BOLD just as our founders were during the turbulent times in which they founded this now global organization.

BE BOLD and raise our voices together as the largest constituency of healthcare providers around the globe to influence decisions and create a better world for all, which we strive to serve.

What does it mean to be bold?
Being bold does not mean being brash. It does not have to be inflammatory. Being bold does not have to be confrontational. It does not require you to be the loudest voice in the room. It does require you to step outside your silo and engage with others for the sake of our populations, our profession, and our planet.

What does it take to be bold?
It takes being informed with facts. It takes knowledge. It takes leadership. It takes fluency in economics, technology, and conservation. It takes love, courage, and honor.

  • United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the world’s shared plan to end extreme poverty, reduce inequality, and protect the planet by 2030.

Adopted by 193 countries in 2015, the SDGs emerged from the most inclusive and comprehensive negotiations in UN history and have inspired people from across sectors, geographies, and cultures. Achieving the goals by 2030 will require heroic and imaginative effort, determination to learn about what works, and agility to adapt to new information and changing trends.

The UN Foundation focuses on ideas and initiatives that generate larger impact, advance the SDG imperative to “leave no one behind,” and are backed by evidence, practical commitments, and action.

Individuals, innovations, and actions are helping the planet realize the potential and promise of the SDGs.
